Customer-Originated Trace. The North American universal dialing code which you touchtone in immediately after receiving a harassing, obscene or annoying phone call. By touchtoning that number in, you have alerted your central office to "tag" that phone call. Should a law enforcement agency get involved in investigating your annoying calls, they would be able to go into your records and find the phone number from which the annoying call was made.
